The South Trail Fire Protection and Rescue Service District is an independent taxing district established by the state legislature to provide fire protection and rescue services to approximately 62,000 residents of a 39-square mile area in south Fort Myers, Lee County, Florida.

The District operates four fire stations, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.  The District never closes and is always operationally ready to respond. Three shifts of 22 firefighters staff four fire engines, a 100 ft. Aerial Platform, one first out utility response pumper, two Advanced Life Support/Non-Transport quick response units, a small rescue boat, and two brush trucks. All of our firefighters are Emergency Medical Technicians; 42 are practicing Paramedics.

In 2022 our crews responded to 12,047 calls for service - including fires, rescues, medical emergencies, hazardous material events, and vehicle crashes.

Gifts for seniors! South Trail Fire & Rescue Firefighters visited every apartment at Pope St John XXIII Villas and delivered gift bags filled with items just for that senior resident. The firefighters even carried bags of dog treats to gift to their furry friends. With generous help and donations from Heritage Palm friends, The Joyce Family, and an anonymous donor, 52 women and 18 men were surprised today with holiday gifts hand delivered by station 62 crews and Chief Rogers.

Congratulations Inspector Jeff Gilbert on a well-deserved retirement! Inspector Jeff Gilbert has retired from South Trail Fire Department, his last day of employment with us was December 7, 2022. He finished his final shift riding next to his son in the back of fire engine 61 as a firefighter/medic, and then was driven home by his son FF Gilbert for his final ride. We would like to thank Inspector/Investigator/Paramedic Gilbert for just over 27 years of service to South Trail Fire District! Jeff has faithfully served as a Lee County EMS Paramedic (3 years prior to South Trail), South Trail Firefighter/Paramedic, South Trail Fire Inspector/Paramedic, and Acting Division Chief of Fire & Life Safety. We are all so happy for you! #southtrail #STFD #E61 #Retirement #firefighterretirement #firefamily

Firefighter Steve Krause is retiring with 25 years of service to the South Trail Fire District and previous years of service with Lee County EMS and Estero FD prior to beginning his career with South Trail. Steve’s last shift at South Trail Fire & Rescue was Saturday, with his final crew members driving him home. Steve…thank you for your service to our community and to your fellow firefighters and staff. We all wish you the best in this upcoming and well-deserved new chapter in life!

South Trail Fire Department Squad 63 crew with Chief Rogers and Asst Chief Bollen had a fun time ringing the bell for The Salvation Army at Publix today. It is always a positive time helping when and where we can. #STFD #southtrailfire #salvationarmy #RedKettle #swfl

South Trail Firefighters are always willing to help when they can, and when Grampy’s charities asks for help with the RMH Ball Drop, it is always a great time. It takes just a few minutes of our time, and an honor to help with their annual ball drop!
