In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, South Trail Fire Department firefighters (all three shifts) participated in an Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness Training. This training not only educated the firefighters about ASD, but made them aware of how ASD children and adults might behave differently in an emergency. Every fire apparatus is now equipped with a calm down sensory kit and laminated communication boards. The kits are additional tools that can provide items that will help an ASD person relax with sensory items and the communication sheets are to help a non-verbal patients tell us how they feel or what hurts. South Trail Firefighters are always looking for ways to effectively help anyone who needs it.
